Bus Wrap Winner Celebrates Transit’s 50th Anniversary

With most of her 8th grade classmates in attendance, Savannah Mathew had no idea what was about to unfold. Sure, the big blue bus was on the Valley View Charter Montessori campus and there were lots of teachers and administrators standing around, but January 31st was a cold day, and she probably wanted to get back inside like everyone else. Then the bus started to slowly appear. And her artwork was on the side! Students and teachers clapped and the secret everyone was keeping for months was finally revealed.

Savannah won the second annual Design a Bus Wrap Contest, a collaborative effort between the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) and El Dorado Transit. The art contest is open to any 6-12 grade student who resides in El Dorado County. This year over 100 entries were received.

“I remembered Navaeh’s artwork from last year and I was just trying to do my best,” Savannah said. “I stayed up late to finish it and got it done just in time.”

Navaeh Smith was last year’s winner who also attended Valley View Charter Montessori.

“This is such a great program for local students,” said Erik Bergren, Planning and Marketing Manager for El Dorado Transit. “We love working with EDCOE on this project and it’s so much fun to see the bus with the artwork pop up all over El Dorado County.”
